Day 8 ~ Pompeii

This morning we rose bright and early and after a quick breakfast, and a bit of a rain delay, we headed down to the port to catch a boat to the island of Capri. On the way down we wandered a bit and bought an umbrella, just in case. When we got down there we found out they were not running any boats to Capri today because the seas were too rough. So we wandered back up the cliffs into town and back to our hotel room. We grabbed some lunch from our stash of food we had gotten from the grocery store.

After some deliberation we decided to head to Pompeii instead. This turned out to be a wonderful decision and we had a great day exploring the ruins and taking in the history of this magical place. And, because we bought the umbrella this morning the rain held off until we were just leaving!

So we wound our way back to Sorrento along the coast and through the traffic. We walked into the old part of town and had a nice, enjoyable dinner accompanied by a bottle of wine from the flanks of Mt Vesuvius as well as some fantastic live music with a piano and tambourine accompaniment. Off to bed now and headed into Rome tomorrow, buonanotte!
